  • NATIONAL ORPHANAGE HISTORY DISPLAY & CLAN SOCIAL
    Updated January 25, 2008
The Orphanage History Exhibition hosted by the Geelong Regional Library was a great success, attracting attention from both the public and the media. We welcome all those new members who learned about CLAN's existance for the first time in the course of the display. CLAN would like to thank everyone who made it possible, from those who donated exhibits to those who made the display possible, and everyone in between. The results were so satisfactory that the exhibit is sure to make an appearance elsewhere on another occasion. Photos of the display and the Social that followed will be uploaded as soon as possible.
  • GEELONG SOCIAL
    Updated Decmber 7th, 2007
On November 17th, 2007, Geelong hosted its first CLAN social. 23 members attended the event which was held at Johnson Park. Special Guest was the Labour Candidate for Corio, Mr Richard Marles, who was elected on November 24th. We particularly appreciate those who attended from Melbourne.  Click Here to view photos of the event.

  • GOULBURN MEMORIAL OPENING
    Updated 11 Oct 2007
On Saturday October 6th, as part of the official "Lilac Time Festival", a memorial gardens and plaque were unveiled commemorating the four institutions that were once located there. Over 50,000 children lived in these orphanages at one time or another. CLAN would like to thank Goulburn City Council, especially Tim Geyer and Debbie Sibbick for all their work with the memorial. Debbie even drove to Sydney to collect waterlillies without knowing that they are CLAN's symbol. The memorial would not have been possible without the efforts of CLAN member Jim Luthy, and CLAN acknowledges his vital contribution. Photographs of the memorial and the opening ceremony are now available - click on the image to the right to go to the gallery.
  • CLAN's oldest memberThe birthday party for CLAN's oldest member, Vera Fooks, on 15 September, was a great success. Vera had a wonderful time. The ballerina-themed event was held at the Morningside School of Arts.
Vera went to St Vincent's Orphanage at Nudgee in Queensland at 9 years of age in 1920. She was separated from her brother and sister from that night and did not meet them again for another 50 odd years.
CLAN would like to thank everyone who sent a birthday card or gift. Vera very much appreciated your thoughts and generosity, which helped make her first ever Birthday party an occasion to remember. A Page of photos of the party can be opened by clicking here. Vera has donated a copy of her autobiography, "Bebe's Story" to the CLAN Library. We only have the one, and expect a lot of you may want to read it, so please be patient if we can't get it to you right away!
  • Father's Day Presentation to Mr Brumby, Premier of Victoria - Fathers Day 2008 CLAN wanted to use the occasion of Father's Day, 2008, to remind the Premier of Victoria of the burdons carried by Care leavers. We are the State's children, and wished to draw the Premier's attention to this fact, and to the need for an inquiry into the treatment of the Forgotten Australians for whom the state of Victoria has responsibility. A card was prepared and signed by many care-leavers, with gifts of a bottle of "CLAN" scotch and socks in CLAN colours and an embroidered hanky. We will tell you of the outcome, and give more details, next week. Click here to view photos of the day
