Stolen Generation apology gets personal

MARK COLVIN: A Melbourne man has made history by getting a personal apology from the Victorian Government for his treatment as a ward of the state and as a member of the Stolen Generation. Neville Austin will receive Victoria's first compensation payment to a member of the Stolen Generation. But Mr Austin says the apology is much more significant than the money. A lawyer who acted in another landmark case says Mr Austin's success is significant nationally, because compensation for members of the Stolen Generation is very rarely achieved.
