What your State will be doing for the Federal Apology

TASMANIA : The Tasmanian Government will be hosting a function at Parliament House in Hobart on Monday 16th November to coincide with the national apology being provided by the Australian Government to Forgotten Australians. All Tasmanian Care Leavers from all states of Australia are welcome to attend this function. WESTERN AUSTRALIA: The Hon. Robyn McSweeney MLC, Minister for Child Protection; Community Services; Seniors and Volunteering; Women's Interests, will be hosting in Perth the screening of the National Apology to the Forgotten Australians and former child migrants. The Prime Minister will be apologising, on behalf of the nation, to more than 500,000 Australians - many of whom suffered abuse and neglect while in out-of-home care last century - at a formal remembrance ceremony to be held at Parliament House, Canberra. All Western Australians Care Leavers from all states of Australia are welcome to attend this function. Click on the PDF link to view the map QUEENSLAND The Queensland Government is hosting an event in Brisbane to enable those who suffered abuse and neglect while in out-of-home care to join together to witness the delivery of the national apology. Date: Monday 16th November 2009 Venue: Speaker's Green, Parliamentary Annexe, Alice Street, Brisbane Time: 9:30am for a 9:45am start. The apology will be broadcast live following an address by Mrs Leneen Forde, Chair of the Forde Inquiry. All Queensland Care Leavers from all states of Australia are welcome to attend this function. VICTORIA On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Hon Lisa Neville MP, Minister for Community Services, the Minister for Senior Victorians and Minister for Mental Health invites Victorian Care Leavers to be present at the State Library of Victoria for an event to celebrate the National Apology to Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants. Date: Monday 16th November 2009 Venue: 328 Swanston Street, Melbourne Time: 10:15am with proceedings to commence at 10.45am. Following the apology guests are invited to stay for refreshments. National Apology certificate: Support: All Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants are welcome, including those who live in Victoria but were in care in other States. Assistance for Victorian Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants to travel to the Apology in Canberra is available through the Interim service and can be contacted on 1800 509 203. SOUTH AUSTRALIA The Department for Families and Communities – Families SA, invites those affected by abuse as children in institutional care, out of home care or as a child migrant to witness this historic event, given by the Prime Minister on behalf of the Australian People, which will be televised live from Canberra. If you suffered abuse as a child migrant or in institutional or out of home care, and you would like to attend this event, please call to let us know. Support people, friends and family are also welcome. There are a total of seven events in different parts of South Australia.
