A psychiatrist and Royal Commission expert witness is urging the Federal Government to reconsider its decision to bar people who've served jail sentences of five years or more from the National Redress Scheme for survivors of institutional child sex abuse.

Dr Carolyn Quadrio says a significant number of people in jail have suffered abuse as a child and excluding them from the scheme fails to acknowledge the damage caused by child sex abuse.
